Voltage Optimisation

Voltage optimisation reduces the amount of voltage that comes into your building. You could make typical savings of around 10%, which may be dependent on the incoming voltage.

Once installed, you are then able to continue your day to day operations, unlike other energy efficiency devices. Voltage optimisation saves money, reduces energy consumption and lowers electricity bills, ultimately improving the overall efficiency of the building.

Sensors

Better control of lighting can reduce costs by 30 to 50 per cent, which will also reduce carbon emissions at the same time.

By using occupancy sensors that dim or switch off lighting when there is nobody in the room can reduce electricity use by 30 per cent. Daylight sensors are also a great way to save energy.

They turn on according to how much natural light there is in a room. So by adjusting lighting according to the amount of natural light in the room, up to 40 per cent can be saved.

Insulation

Around a third of all the heat lost in an uninsulated building is through the walls and in an uninsulated loft around a quarter of heating is lost.

Insulation helps reduce your heating bills and makes it more comfortable with a maintained constant temperature throughout the building. Cavity wall insulation fills the gap between the two walls, keeping the warmth in the save energy, and could give you an annual saving of up to £140 a year.

Solid wall insulation could give you an annual saving of up to £490 a year. Rigid insulation boards can be made to insulate walls, floors and ceilings. Polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) are amongst the best insulation materials commonly used.

Biomass

Biomass is a renewable, low carbon fuel that is already widely available throughout the UK. Correctly managed, biomass is a sustainable fuel that can deliver a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Many biomass fuels generate lower levels of such atmospheric pollutants as sulphur dioxide that contributes to acid rain.

Lighting

Lighting uses around 20 per cent of the electricity generated in the UK. By simply upgrading to more energy efficient light bulbs, you could save energy and money.

For example;

The incandescent light bulb converts very little of the electricity that it uses into light as well as having a short life span of around 1,000 hours. When replaced with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) these have an approximate life span of 10,000 hours, and use up to 80 per cent less energy. LEDs have an even longer life span of around 50,000 hours.

LED

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have a life span of around 50,000 hours and can last up to 2 to 4 times longer than a CFL light bulb, and 25 to 35 times longer than incandescent light bulbs. This then becomes more energy efficient resulting in a lower cost of electricity.

Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps heat your building with energy from the ground. This energy can be used to heat radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems and hot water in your building.

A ground source heat pump circulates a mixture of liquids around a pipe which is buried in the ground. The heat from the ground is absorbed into the fluid and flows into a heat exchanger. The length of the ground loop depends on the size of your building and the amount of energy you use.

Using a heat pump could lower your energy bills and lower your carbon emissions, needing little maintenance. You could also receive an income through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

Solar PV

Solar Photovoltaics (PV) convert daylight into electrical current that can be used to power your home appliances.
Solar PV produce their energy from daylight, not sunlight, so energy can still produce electricity on a cloudy day.
The solar panels should last 25 years or more.

There are several benefits to using Solar PV. You can cut your electricity bills as well as your carbon footprint as you will be using renewable energy. Another benefit is that you get paid for the electricity that you generate.
